Marie Hopson, Practice Manager
With not a clue on what to do with her life, Marie left college
with a Distinction in Business and Accounting. She made the
decision to prepare herself for any eventuality and to acquire
skills that would enable her to secure employment, whilst
searching for her dream job and completed all her secretarial
exams to the highest standard, in addition.
position was not what she expected (particularly with a weak
stomach) when she found herself working as
Receptionist/Secretary in a busy Pathology Department at the
London based private hospital, The Cromwell Hospital. She soon
realised that no day was ever the same and became intrigued by
all things medical. She worked her way through the hospital
departments gaining knowledge of all areas of Patient
Services. Not satisfied, she decided to go to night school and
after two years officially became a Medical Secretary, securing
the position of PA to the General Manager at the London Heart
Clinic, now part of Harley Street Clinic. Then nearer home at
the Clementine Churchill and later a position with a Consultant
Paediatrician and Consultant Obstetrician who had decided to
start their private Practice together at the Portland Hospital. I guess you could say she enjoyed it as, 10 years and 2 young
children later, she was still with them.

doctors, took a part-time position in Harley Street and worked
as a freelance Medical Secretary, covering most specialist areas
In 1990 she
was introduced to Dr Ian Hay and landed her dream job. She was
afforded the ability to work from home and encouraged to attend
all school events, often told – they grow up too quick and such
memories will always be treasured. Ian and the Practice were
supported fully throughout by Marie and her professional and
caring approach to parents, often with anxiety levels at their
highest, has played its’ part in the success of the Practice to
date, 14 years and two grown-up children later.
encouraged and embraced the changes as Dr Ian Hay Ltd
evolved. She works closely with all of the Practice Associates
and has personally trained an amazing Patient Services Team, who
now support her in ensuring that the high Practice standards are

organisation and general administration of the Practice and
patients can contact Marie if they have any comments or
suggestions about our services.
She has a love
of dancing and is so proud of her children, Sophie & Mitchell
and indeed the success of the Practice, and considers all of the
team to be an extension of her own family.
Practice Manager is exceptionally supported by the Patient
Services Team, initially with Louise Enright, later joined by
Linda Enright (her sister-in-law) and most recently Linda
Strickler who share the same work ethic and are dedicated to
providing a professional, efficient and caring service to our
Practice Consultants and patients alike.
Services Team will be who you have the most frequent contact
with as they will answer the majority of queries that are
received by phone or via email. As mums they also can identify
with most of our parents’ concerns and always go that little bit
further with their efforts to help. They also assist with tasks
ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the Practice.
If there are
any problems or queries that they cannot easily deal with, they
will always seek the advice of Marie or one of the Consultants
