Dr Ben Ko

Dr Ian Hay Ltd is very pleased to welcome Dr Ben Ko, Senior Consultant Paediatrician (Neurodisability and Child Development) as one of our Specialist Associate.

Ben brings over 20 years’ experience as an NHS Consultant, graduating from Edinburgh University with a Distinction in Paediatrics. He continued his training rotating through tertiary centres including Gt Ormond Street Hospital, London and Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh.     Ben was made Honorary Consultant to Gt Ormond Street prior to his current NHS Clinic with Bart’s Health NHS Trust (Royal London Hospital).

He has an extensive clinical portfolio in the field of neurodisability and child development, covering physical disabilities, learning difficulties, autism, dyspraxia and the full range of developmental disorders. His approach is parent and child centred, so that parents and young people are able to make decisions and choices with the best possible opinion and options. He provides robust, evidence based developmental diagnosis, which many parents find invaluable in helping to choose intervention and secure support for their children.

Ben has worked with the Motor Disorder Service at Great Ormond Street Hospital and therefore has expertise in medical assessment and management of children with cerebral palsy and other motor disorders. Some of these children may benefit from medication for their tonal abnormalities, to reduce muscle stiffness and enable better posture and movements. Referrals from physiotherapists and other professionals are very welcome.

Ben has gained national recognition for his contribution to paediatrics. He holds a Department of Health National Level Clinical Excellence Award, which is bestowed to only the top 10% of UK Consultants. He has held numerous offices at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, and is currently an Advisor to the Neurodisability Training Committee. He has a Ministerial Advisor to the Department of Work and Pensions, and as such had contributed to central government polices for disabled children.

Ben will be joining our Practice in September 2015 and will be offering Saturday appointments for neurodisability and child development related concerns to our patients.
